FAQ: What information can the Medical Council of NSW provide about a doctor?

Answer: The Medical Council of NSW cannot provide registration details about medical practitioners. The Medical Board of Australia can provide details of a doctor's current registration status and category, including any practice conditions or orders imposed on their registration under the provisions of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW). This information is contained in the publicly available Register of Medical Practitioners which can be accessed at www.ahpra.gov.au and which includes the following details:

  • the doctor's registration number, name, and gender
  • the year and place of their primary medical degree
  • specialty
  • the state in which the doctor is located
  • the year of their first registration and the date on which their annual renewal of registration is due
  • the doctor's current registration status and category, and practice conditions (if applicable).

The Medical Council of NSW also provides on its website published disciplinary decisions.

Information about a doctor's medical registration history should be confirmed directly with the Medical Board of Australia.
