The Medical Council of New South Wales has a responsibility to ensure that medical practitioners are fit to practise medicine. It achieves this by ensuring registered doctors maintain proper standards of conduct and competence and by providing a range of programs and services for this purpose.

National registration

Important notice for all doctors

From 1 July 2010 registration will be overseen by the new Medical Board of Australia. In NSW, doctors' health, professional performance and conduct matters including complaints and notifications will be dealt under NSW legislation and will be overseen by the Medical Council of New South Wales.

From 1 July 2010, you will need to approach the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in relation to registration matters. Information about AHPRA and the Medical Board of Australia is available at www.ahpra.gov.au
